Helen Wallington is a Licensed Professional Counseling Associate who has over five years of experience in the mental health space, including work in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), individual counseling, and specialized work in a high-acuity inpatient setting. Helen has a deep passion for supporting the unique needs of the geriatric population, addressing challenges such as grief, trauma, and loss of independence, but is equally dedicated to working with adults of all ages as they navigate life’s complexities.
Helen leans into the belief that you can’t bully yourself into progress. Instead, she works to encourage individuals to build a foundation of self-kindness and self-acceptance as a first step towards the change they want to see. Helen knows that you are the expert of your own life and works with you to identify your unique goals, and emphasizes the importance of collaboration in the therapeutic space. She is particularly passionate about helping clients to notice small, often overlooked details of daily life, uncovering how subtle patterns may be impacting their well being more than they realize, and working together to identify ways to make positive and impactful changes. Whether the goal is to work through trauma, regulate emotions, or just process the things going on in this phase of life, Helen works to build skills that will not only help clients reach their current goals, but provide them with the necessary tools to reach new goals that develop in the future.
Helen’s approach is fundamentally client-centered, grounded in the belief that effective therapy must support the whole person, honoring the deep connection between the mind and the body. Helen tailors her practice to the specific needs and goals of each individual, ensuring that the therapeutic process is truly a collaborative partnership. In support of this, Helen utilizes several evidence-based frameworks, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Solution Focused Therapy, and Somatic Therapy.
Helen was born and raised in Dallas, Texas and now lives in the Roanoke area with her husband, their dog, and three cats. In her free time, Helen enjoys practicing mind-body mindfulness, spending time outdoors, cooking, reading, binge watching TV, or spending time with friends and family.
